4 STEPS TO BECOMING A HAM RADIO OPERATOR
1. STUDY! STUDY! then STUDY A LITTLE MORE!
Here are some good links to practice exams and often other study materials:
- https://hamstudy.org/ has some great FREE help and practice exams. It is also associated with Exam Tools, which is the software that our VE Team uses for exams. It offers a Smart Phone App. So you would be familiar with the layout when testing. On a PC it's free. The phone app costs $3.00 at the time of this writing. I would HIGHLY recommend it!
- https://www.eham.net/exams/ has easy to use practice exams
- https://hamexam.org/ has practice exams and flashcards too for all levels of amateur radio licenses.
The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) also has a FREE practice exam site at:
http://arrlexamreview.appspot.com
You do not need to be an ARRL member to use this, but you do have to register for an ID.
When you are Consistently Scoring in the Upper 80%'s, you are probably ready for the exam.
2. REGISTER FOR A F.C.C. ACCOUNT
Just search in your favorite browser for: 'new FRN registration' OR go to
FRN - Step by Step.
Register just like any other website.
Write down your 'FRN' number! You will need it to Sign Up for an Exam.
3. FIND AN EXAM NEAR YOU.
Here is a link to Hamstudy.org: www.hamstudy.org
They maintain a database of exams; as does the ARRL:
ARRL Find an Exam Near Me
4. REGISTER FOR AN EXAM
Show up and pass the exam.
Welcome to the Ham Radio Family!!
~ The Cedar Creek Lake VE Team wishes you Good Luck on your exam!
